Written Critiques by Agents – manuscripts and illustrations
Submission must be postmarked on or before Jan. 5, 2012and sent with a check for $45 made out to SCBWI-San Diego to SCBWI-San Diego, P.O. Box 22300, San Diego, CA 92192-2300. Written critiques are only available to those registered to attend the morning workshop or afternoon agents’ panel. Space is limited. Maximum of one submission for a written critique per conference participant. See specifications for manuscripts and illustrations below.

Written Manuscript Critiques: All children's genres welcome. Send the complete manuscript for picture books; a one-page synopsis and the first fifteen pages for all others. Manuscripts should be submitted in standard manuscript format – double-spaced, with 1 inch margins and Times Roman 12 pt font. Please include your name and contact information in the upper left hand corner, the type of genre (picture book, EZ reader, middle grade, young adult, etc.) in the upper right hand corner of the first page. Maximum of one manuscript per conference participant.  Submission must be postmarked on or before Jan. 5, 2012

Written Illustration Critiques: Dummies or Portfolios welcome. Send high quality copies of 8-10 pieces of your strongest work, or a dummy plus 3 finished pieces (it would be best if at least one of the finished pieces is from the story submitted as a dummy). Artwork should be prints of high quality (300 dpi at 100%), or good color photocopies, be sure to include your name and contact information on the back of each illustration. Please do not send original art. Maximum of one submission per conference participant. Submission must be postmarked on or before Jan. 5, 2012
In-Person Portfolio Reviews: Richard Jesse Watson will be conducting 20-minute portfolio reviews. Registration for Portfolio Reviews must be postmarked on or before Jan. 18, 2012 and include a check for $45 payable to SCBWI-San Diego, sent to San Diego-SCBWI, P.O. Box 22300, San Diego, CA 92192-2300. Include with your registration up to six sample color photocopies with your name and contact info on the back. Payment can be sent with illustrations or separately. If you prefer email, you can email up to six illustrations (72 dpi) as a PDF file by Jan. 18, 2012 to jyuwiler@gmail.com with your name as part of the file name. The day of the conference, bring your portfolio with up to 8-12 pieces of your strongest work. Artwork should be prints of high quality (300 dpi at 100%), or good color photocopies. You may bring a picture book dummy if you choose. (Note: you will only have 20 minutes so plan accordingly - if you bring too much, you won't have much time to discuss what you brought.) Appointment times will be given at conference check-in. Limited space available. Must be registered to attend Richard Jesse Watson’s morning workshop.


Agent Circles
with individual literary agents are available after the panel. Participants will participate in small groups with up to three different agents. Participants can submit up to 150 words of their first page, or a query, or a pitch, or up to 2 pieces of art or up to 2 publicity pieces for comment by one of the agents. Pieces to be reviewed will be sent to the agent prior to the event and the name of the author or illustrator will be keep private when the piece is reviewed for 3-5 minutes within the circle. Space is limited and on a first come first served basis. Must be registered to attend the Agents’ Panel. Registration and Submitted Material must be postmarked on or before Jan. 18, 2012. Please use standard manuscript format for written work and send prints of high quality (300 dpi at 100%), or good color photocopies of any artwork. Please do not send original art. Submissions should include your name. You will not be anonymous to the reviewing agent. Must be registered to attend Agents’ Panel and Agent Circles.
